Michel Bassompierre - Brochure

Michel Bassompierre is a pivotal figure in the history of Galerie Montmartre. Born in Paris in 1948, he moved to Rouen to study at the Beaux-Arts School, where he honed his skills under the guidance of renowned sculptor René Leleu.

While teaching applied arts, Bassompierre embarked on his own sculpting journey, driven by an unyielding passion for his craft. Since then, he has played a crucial role in reviving animal sculpture, injecting fresh vitality into the art form that had waned in the post-World War II era.

Beyond a mere revival, Michel Bassompierre's work represents a true rejuvenation, characterized by the focus on the rounded, soft forms of animals—an approach uncommon at the time.
